Careful It's Hot

This year my long summer days were happily full of personalized requests and custom invitations. Last week I finished up the season's final order and immediately found myself immersed in a slew of handcrafted requests for Autumn and Winter weddings. Truly, I feel like I've somehow jumped from cool pink lemonade to hot apple cider in the blink of an eye - and I think I burned my tongue!

So, with the end of summer having somehow rushed by unbeknownst to me, I thought it necessary to slow down and reflect on some of my favorite summer projects for Birdcage Cards. 'Cause ya know, sometimes a girl just needs time to adjust and reflect. Here's a tiny sampling of what's been keeping my workspace aflutter...

A Sun-Charged Day

It has been such a great day today! I've been working on some lovely 5"x7" Swallowtail Invites in my bright and sunny workshop. My space has just been flooded with light all day, but there's not even a trace of that yucky humidity that's been hanging 'round Buffalo all weekend. So now I'm taking an early dinner/late lunch break from a productive day in my workshop and I thought it'd be the perfect time to share a tiny taste of a few projects I've recently worked on.
The only problem is I keep forgetting to photograph my local orders. I worked on a handful of them in the past few months, but because each was hand delivered it never occurred to me to take some product shots like I do for my online orders. And its driving me nuts since they were all lovely custom invitation orders and I could have used some shots for my portfolio! Ugghhh, I guess I'll have to chalk it up to part of the learning process and know that next time it will be on my mind. Well, at least I hope it will, eek!

Just Three Colors - Red and Yellow and Blue...

I wanted to share a brand spankin' new stationery set today. When I was drafting this image I was inspired by one of my favorite books and movies - The Wizard of Oz. Since I've yet to take up hand carving my own stamps I sent my image in to RubberStamps.net and had it turned into my own art mounted rubber stamp. I love doing that.

Printed on heavy medium-weight 80lb card stock,
note cards measure approx 3.75" x 5"

Can you guess what I named it? That's right, its called "A Horse of a Different Color". While the horse from the movie was shown in four different colors (white, yellow, red and blue) I took a few creative liberties with mine; choosing just three colors and a bit more funky at that - marigold, scarlet and turquoise. A set includes three of each color with coordinating envelopes.

If you'd like to get your hands on a set or see more photos you can either email me now or wait for my Etsy shop to officially open on Friday, May 15. Ooouu, and don't forget to check back here for more sneak peaks to come.

Make a Wish

I have been working like a mad woman to get organized for my etsy store opening next month. Not only have I been feverishly finishing up some new invitation and stationery designs but I have had to make several sets of each design. Wait, does it sound like I have multiples of each already done - ‘cause I don’t. That’s still on my to-do list.

Its also probably not the best time to be experimenting with new packaging options either but that couldn’t be helped. The new stationery line required new boxes and hunting for just the right one was a bit of a time suck. But, fortunately for me they were found and while I await their arrival I have tons to do to keep me busy. Thought I might make a wish that I get everything ready in time and still maintain my sanity. So, I made a lovely new dandelion note card set to wish on…

All a Flutter

As promised here's another peak at a stationery set from the new line, called "All a Flutter". This butterfly stationery looks so soft and peaceful. The pictures really don't do it justice. I started using this set as note cards so as to not write across the delicate images, but of course, they come flat and unfolded for you to decide its use.

Sets arrive unfolded and measure 5" x 7".

Currently stationery is packaged in sets of 8 but if you would like a set of 25 sheets and envelopes just let us know that can easily be arranged.

I really hope you all love this new set. Sometimes sharing a new design feels a bit like releasing your grown child into the world - you so hope it does well and people are kind to it.
For more details on any of our stationery sets feel free to send an email. I promise I won't bite.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. Leave a comment and let me know what you think...of anything really! Have a happy Thursday everyone!

Take a Seat Stationery

Okay, ladies and gents time for another sneak peek at Birdcage Cards' new stationery line. Still, working out a few details for this set of quirky chairs - like which color envelope to use. So, I thought you might be able to help me out. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

So, what do you think - process red (which is really a deeper pink)
or chartreuse?

All Birdcage Cards' stationery sets are made using a heavy medium-weight 80 lb card stock. I picked this weight specifically because it's not too stiff and it's not too flimsy. This way each stationery set can be used either as note cards or as writing paper; making each set completely customizable. I want you to be able to decide how you want to use it. {Check out this post for more details.}

Each set comes with 8 sheets of writing paper and 8 envelopes.

Each sheet in this set measures 5 1/8" x 7 3/8" unfolded.

I spent forever trying to find the perfect color for the seats of these fancy chairs. I felt they needed a color that was just as quirky as they were and was sold when I found this fun chartreuse. The set is also available with one pink and one blue chair which makes a perfect his and hers thank you set. A great shower gift for any couple!

Anyhow, I really hope you all love this new Take a Seat Stationery Set. Don't forget to let me know which color envelope you'd rather see. They're both so cute I can't make up my mind and could really use an outsider's perspective. Thanks guys and have a happy Tuesday!

New Stationery Line

I'm so excited because I've been developing a new line of stationery and am loving how things have turned out so far. Today I want to give you a sneak peek and share one of my favorite sets from the new line. I hope you like it as much as I do- no scratch that - I hope you love it!

Plumage Stationery Set by Birdcage Cards

Birdcage Cards' stationery sets are completely versatile and like no other on the market. I don't use just any old flimsy writing paper. All of the images are hand printed on a heavy medium-weight card stock. Which means that when you are done writing your note its up to you how you want present it. Our writing paper, when folded a certain way, becomes a note card. It's like getting two sets of stationery in one! You decide how and when you want to use it; writing paper one day and folded notecards the next.

A set consists of 8 5" x 7" writing sheets and 8 Bar4 envelopes.

By writing on the blank side you can turn your stationery paper into a folded note card.

Or simply write your message on top of the stamped image and use your paper like a traditional stationery set.

I hope you enjoyed checking out Birdcage Cards' new Plumage Stationery Set. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks to come.
